NCAA TOURNAMENT ROUND 2 GLANCE

EXCELLENT: DJ Burns Jr. scored 2 4 points, including a go-ahead putback that ignited a 9 -0 run in overtime, and 1 1 th-seeded North Carolina State beat 1 4 th-seeded Oakland 7 9 -7 3 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night. Powered by their versatile 6 -foot-9, 2 7 5 -pound forward, the Wolfpack (2 4 -1 4 ) advanced to the Sweet 1 6 for the first time since 2 0 1 5 by finally pulling away from 3 -point specialist Jack Gohlke and the Golden Grizzlies (2 4 -1 2 ) in the extra period. Michael O’Connell had 1 2 points for the Wolfpack. DJ Horne and Casey Morsell, pictured, added 1 1 apiece.

ZAGS ROLL: Gonzaga played a nearly perfect second half, busting open a back-and-forth game with a 1 5 -0 run Saturday to pull away from Kansas for an 8 9 -6 8 win and extend its nation-best streak of trips to the Sweet 1 6 to nine.

UNC PERFECT AGAINST IZZO:

RJ Davis scored 2 0 points to help North Carolina beat Michigan State 85-69 on Saturday, pushing the Tar Heels to the Sweet 1 6 while keeping them unbeaten in March Madness against Spartans Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo. UNC moved to 5 -0 in the tournament against Izzo, including victories in the 2 0 0 5 Final Four and 2 0 0 9 title game.
