As Chevrolet continues to keep up with the trends of the American truck competition, the release of the 2024 Silverado 2500HD ZR2 was very anticipated. As the brother brand, GMC, has released the AT4 in prior years, Chevrolet’s version is just as big and brawny as can be.

Powered with the ever-reliable Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel, producing 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, this almost-$10K powertrain option is flawless. Additionally, this is paired with the Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, which was smooth and quiet.

Wrapped in Sterling Gray Metallic, my ZR2 tester showed out exceptionally well. Power retractable assist steps with LED lighting, technology package, power sunroof and a multiflex tailgate were options added on our tester, totaling just over $5K, while a 13.4-inch infotainment HD Color touchscreen was standard with Bluetooth and wireless connectivity.

On the interior, the 2024 Silverado 2500HD ZR2 is really comfortable. With its plush Jet Black seats and desirable graystone accents, our Crew Cab tester certainly felt more upscale than our recent Colorado ZR2 tester. The rear bench-style seat was ultra comfortable for passengers, with great legroom and enough space for storage or tools while on the go.

As Chevrolet’s newest flagship off-road truck, the 2024 Silverado 2500HD ZR2 is highly desirable and well-priced. It boasts outstanding comfort and a great ride while providing great utility for drivers and workers in need of a serious work truck. But let’s not forget the ZR2 package, which provides for all of that and the off-road capabilities, similar to GMC’s AT4 off-road package. Historically, a stiffer ride is all the norm for big trucks with off-road capabilities, but Chevrolet and the entire GM brand have done a remarkable job at minimizing that stiffness and focusing on the interior comfort and ride. As Dodge, Ford and Toyota still make their mark in the truck market, Chevrolet certainly has its trucks figured out.
