Measuring Lumber
You may think that lumber dimensions are pretty straightforward, but you’d be surprised. A 2x4 is 2 inches by 4 inches when it’s cut, but the drying process reduces it to 11⁄2 inches by 31⁄2 inches.
The same goes for plywood: it’s slightly smaller than nominal measurements indicate. So while some of my measurements might seem off, they’re actually taking this into account.
