Molting Matters

Hens molt yearly, usually in the fall. Molting simply means that the hens are replacing their feathers. Sometimes this is a gradual process and you won’t notice, but often the chickens start to look bad. They become thin and have patchy feathers. I like to provide extra protein during a molt because hens can lose weight from the high demand of replacing feathers.
