Repurposing a Swing Set

This is our beautiful Hawthorne Chicken Chapel, a bespoke coop made for us by the master craftsmen at Clucks Delux Coops (www.facebook.com/ Clucksdeluxcoops) out of San Antonio, Texas. It’s quite a surprise for guests when they open the door of this charming country church — complete with working bell tower and stained glass window — and, voila, there are chickens inside! The occupants, a suburban backyard flock of five, offer us beautiful green and blue eggs under a sign that invites them to “come to the altar and lay” for us.

Our beloved chicken chapel is a place of refuge and peace of mind during the chaos of the Covid-19 pandemic. We’ve placed it just outside our master bedroom, a hopeful sign that greets us with new promises and happy clucks every morning.
