Chickens

A Success Story

-

When Elaine and I were still relatively inexperienced chicken folks, we had a bird named Tootsie that was the proverbial runt of the litter. She was the last chick born and the smallest member of her flock. She frequently came down with colds and was often bullied. One day, she seemed generally listless, and the next morning she didn’t even bother to join her flock.

Feeling that she was near death, I removed her from the other chickens and placed her inside a large box where she could hear her fellow flock members but where they couldn’t harass her. To be kind, I added probiotics to her water, even though I was sure Tootsie would be dead by the time I came home from teaching school.

When I arrived home that evening, the first thing I did was check the box and found Tootsie absent. I then asked Elaine what time had she removed the dead hen from her enclosure. My wife responded that she hadn’t done so, and it was then that we spotted Tootsie running around with her flock mates. The probiotics had so rejuvenated Tootsie that she had actually flown out of her death box! Probiotics are the best thing we’ve found to give ailing chickens a dose of energy.
