President felicitates German counterpart

President Xi Jinping congratulated Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Feb 13 on his re-election as German president, saying he is willing to work with him to promote bilateral ties.

In a congratulatory message sent to Steinmeier, Xi said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Noting that he considers the development of China-Germany ties to be greatly important, Xi said he stands ready to work with the German president to give greater importance to the all-around strategic partnership between the two nations and advance bilateral ties to a new level.

Steinmeier was re-elected for a second five-year term on Feb 13 by a special parliamentary assembly.
