Xi expresses sympathy over Brazil disaster

President Xi Jinping sent a message of sympathy to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Feb 18 over casualties caused by heavy rainfall in Brazil.

Xi said he was shocked to learn that the heavy rainfall in the state of Rio de Janeiro has caused major casualties and property losses. He extended his profound condolences over the lives lost and expressed his heartfelt sympathies to family members of the victims and the missing, as well as people in the disaster-hit region.

Xi also expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of people injured in the disaster.

The death toll from mudslides and floods in Brazil’s city of Petropolis rose to 117 on Feb 17.
