Zhao Liping, former police chief and senior political adviser in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been charged with intentional homicide in connection with the death of his mistress.

Zhao, former vice chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Inner Mongolia Committee, has also been charged with bribery and illegally possessing firearms and explosives by the Taiyuan People’s Procuratorate in Shanxi province, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said.

The case has been transferred to the Taiyuan Intermediate People’s Court.

According to Beijing Times, Zhao allegedly killed his 28-year-old mistress in Chifeng, in Inner Mongolia, on March 20 due to a conflict and her intending to expose his corruption. The victim was stabbed and shot to death, and her body was burned.

The following day, Zhao was captured by police, who confiscated a gun in his car.

After detaining him, police seized two guns, as well as many precious stones and antiques at his home.

In a separate development, Si Xianmin, general manager of China Southern Airlines, was expelled from the Party and removed from his post for “serious discipline violations”, according to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection on Wednesday.

The CCDI said that Si violated Party regulations and interfered with inspection work, and used public funds to play golf.
