Feng Baolei, a 27-year-old train attendant, proposed again to his wife, Yu Junxuan, on a high-speed train from Guangdong to the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Feb 1, one week ahead of Chinese New Year.

Yu, 26, who is also a train attendant with Guangzhou Railway Corporation, dissolved into tears when receiving the ring and rose bouquet. Working on different trains, the couple can only see each other every few days.

Though they registered their marriage in December, Feng said he didn’t have time for a formal proposal and finally found a chance during the holiday travel rush when they were working on the same train.

The high-speed train was a special express for migrant workers who were traveling from Guangdong to Guangxi by motorcycle. For their safety, the railway company offered additional trains for workers and their motorcycles.

“The company named the express Happy Together, so I thought it would be a good occasion to propose,” Feng said. He presented his wife a small sign, reading: “Happy is being together with you!”

Yu said she and her husband have to work every Spring Festival because of the travel rush.

Workers who are not able to buy limited train tickets have to ride eight hours by motorcycle to get home from Guangdong to Guangxi.

“I have seen people waiting overnight at the train station to get a ticket home. Some of them sleep on the floor with a quilt covering their body,” she said. “I am always touched when seeing people’s faces on the platform. Their expressions are so happy, like saying: “After a whole year of working, finally I am going home.”

Yu said she was happy that the company offers extra trains for migrant workers, and getting a wedding proposal on one of the trains was a surprise and definitely a memorable moment — for her career and her marriage.
