Acting governor named to lead Anhui
Li Guoying, former viceminister of water resources, was named vice-governor and acting governor of Anhui province by the provincial legislature on Thursday.
It is the first time for Li, born in 1963 in Henan province, to head a provincial government.
Li graduated from what is now North China University of Water Resources and Elec-tric Power in 1984. He majored in water conservancy and hydropower engineering and had been serving in the Ministry of Water Resources and Heilongjiang province’s water resources department for decades.
From 1984 to 1998, Li served in multiple positions on the Yellow River Conservancy Commission under the ministry. He became vice-minister of water resources in 2011 and was appointed vice-Party chief of Anhui in August 2015.
Wang Xuejun, former Party chief of Anhui, said, “Li Guoying is an ethical official with good political qualities.”
Li Jingbin, former governor of Anhui, was appointed Party chief of the province by the central authorities on Monday, while Wang Xuejun, Anhui’s former Party chief, “will not be in the position anymore”, according to an announcement made by the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
Li, the acting governor, was appointed by the Standing Committee of the 12th Anhui People’s Congress, after the legislative body approved Wang Xuejun’s resignation as the committee chairman and Li Jingbin’s resignation as governor of the province.
