Brit­tle bones and os­teo­poro­sis can be im­mo­bi­liz­ing and of­ten difācult dis­eases to de­tect be­fore the\ cause frac­tures and breaks. 1ow, re­searchers have pub­lished new ānd­ings in the Jour­nal of In­ter­nal Medicine demon­strat­ing that con­sum­ing a pro­bi­otic pow­der can di­min­ish bone loss and re­duce os­teo­poro­sis risk. THE DEETS: The study was con­ducted ob­serv­ing 90 el­derly women, half of whom were given a pro­bi­otic pow­der with a strain of Lac­to­bacil­lus twice daily for a year, while the other half of the group was given the same reg­i­men, only with a placebo. Re­search also demon­strated that the pro­bi­otics pro­duce no side ef­fects and are well tol­er­ated by the sub­jects. CON­SIDER TAK­ING a pro­bi­otic sup­ple­ment twice daily to pre­vent bone loss if you have a fam­ily his­tory of brit­tle bone disease. Look for prod­ucts con­tain­ing var­i­ous strains of Lac­to­bacil­lus.
