Nourishing Souls With Love and Barbecue

Merrill Powers has a passion for helping people and for barbecue — and nothing makes him happier than bringing his twin loves together at the Salvation Army in Chicago. “It really made people happy to have barbecue,” says Nancy Powers, whose husband has won ribbons at barbecue competitions. “You haven’t seen somebody’s face light up who yesterday was picking out of a trash can, and today has pulled pork or brisket or barbecue chicken in their hand.”
