It’s a rare 19-year-old who will turn down free pizza, but a Detroit native wanted young people facing hardships to enjoy her good fortune.

Hannah Spooner won a Little Caesars contest granting her $500 worth of pizza for a year, but gifted her prize to Covenant House Michigan, a shelter for homeless youth ages 18 to 24. “Our kids would eat pizza every day,” says PR director Melissa Golpe, who says they will use the free pies to celebrate its Total Me program, in which local college students mentor Covenant House residents.
