Kids Rescued From School Bus Blaze

-

Thanks to the quick thinking of a Maryland school bus driver, 20 students survived a fire without any injuries!

The driver, Reneita Smith, calmly stopped her vehicle ferrying 20 students home from Glenarden Woods Elementary School on Sept. 12 when she noticed flames. “I opened my door, took off my seat belt and I got my babies off that bus,” says Smith, a mother of a 4-year-old. Officials couldn’t figure out what started the blaze that destroyed the bus, but they praised Smith for her fast actions. “I have people calling me a hero, and I say that I’m just a mom,” she says. “As I’m driving the bus, they’re my babies. I’m their mom until I drop them off to their biological moms.”
