THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN

-

Emily Blunt says that playing the title role in The Girl on the Train — based on Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel — is “the most challenging thing I’ve ever done.” She’s an alcoholic who’s obsessed with her ex-husband’s new baby mama and a seemingly perfect married couple she sees every day on her commute. When the wife turns up dead, Emily’s character falls under suspicion. “For me it’s about the portrayal of very damaged women,” Emily says. “I just love that it’s about addiction and loneliness and voyeurism and what we think we see and don’t see.” Emily related to her character: “We’ve all ridden the train to work and wondered about the lives of the people on the train,” she says. “I love that your heroine, your lead character, is the most unreliable witness in the world because she’s a drunk.” Justin Theroux and Allison Janney co-star.
