FOREVER YOUNG

A top Beverly Hills dermatologists reveals the natural strategies stars swear by!

“I use coconut oil all over my face and body. It’s the greatest product ever. It’s great for

your skin.”

Courteney Cox, 53

When it comes to looking ageless, stars have access to all the latest high-end lotions and potions — so we were surprised to hear that A-listers like Courteney Cox actually rely on natural, time-tested options to reverse aging. It’s a smart strategy, says Beverly Hills dermatologist-to-thestars Ava Shamban, M.D. “Naturally derived ingredients deeply nourish and hydrate skin so the complexion looks glowing, smooth and even — for a fraction of the cost.” Read on for easy strategies Dr. Shamban shares with her A-list clients.

RESTORE A YOUTHFUL GLOW

Skin produces less oil with age, which leads to flaky patches that leave the face looking haggard. Dr. Shamban’s fix: Skip soaps, which can be drying, and wash with coconut oil instead. The oil dissolves makeup and removes debris without the glow-sapping scrubbing that’s required with facial cleansers. Plus, she says, “The oil draws impurities out of skin, which allows the oil’s lipids and fatty acids to better penetrate for deep moisturizing.” To do: Use 1 tsp. of melted coconut oil to remove makeup nightly for a gorgeous glow within three weeks.

FADE AGE SPOTS

Years of sun exposure causes skin to overproduce melanin (skin’s pigment), leading to dark spots. While harsh exfoliation can erase the discoloration, it can also be irritating. Dr. Shamban’s surprising to-do for a spot-free complexion: Massage skin with an orange slice. “The fruit is rich in vitamin C, which promotes cell turnover. And using the rind and flesh topically delivers a potent dose to skin.” Plus, the fruit’s citric acid acts like a mild bleaching agent to lighten spots. And as a bonus, gently rubbing an orange slice on the face increases circulation for instant radiance. To do: Slice an orange, then rub the slice over your face (avoiding eyes) for 1 minute. Repeat twice a week for bright, even skin in four weeks. Tip: Citric acid can make skin more sensitive to sunlight, so Dr. Shamban advises applying SPF.

ERASE WRINKLES

Before applying sunscreen in the morning, Dr. Shamban suggests swiping on a serum infused with the plant compound resveratrol. Why? UV rays are able to penetrate sunscreen and cause wrinkles. “Resveratrol blocks the free radicals that penetrate sunscreen, synthesizes collagen for plumper skin and helps the body rev up its antioxidant stores,” she says. Apply serum (we like Life Extension Resveratrol AntiOxidant Serum, $35, lef.com/clo) daily for smoother skin in 30 days.
