A STAR IS BORN

Closer Weekly - - Relax | Movies -

The title of this fourth version of the classic showbiz tale may prove prophetic: Lady Gaga is said to give a star-making performance as the unknown discovered by a grizzled country singer (Bradley Cooper, who also directed the film). “She was there to act, she wasn’t there to perform,” Sam Elliott, who plays her manager, tells Closer. “The wonderful thing is she gets to do both.” Despite her larger-than-life reputation, Gaga wasn’t a diva on the set. “She’s one of the biggest pop stars in the world, but she’s a real person,” says Sam. “A lovely, very smart person.” The admiration is mutual. “Sam is so incredible,” Gaga gushes to Closer. “He has a huge heart, and I loved working with him.” As for Bradley, “He’s the reason I wanted to make this film,” says Gaga. “From the moment he came to my home and we locked eyes, I felt an instant connection.” Concludes Bradley, “It was the most artistically fulfilling experience I’ve ever had.” [R]
