As part of its entertainment memorabilia auction on Dec. 11, Bonhams in London is putting on the block Eric Clapton’s handwritten opening lyrics to his iconic song “Layla.” Written in red ballpoint on a sheet of stationery from Miami Beach’s Thunderbird Motel, the two stanzas are expected to fetch between $45,000 to $57,000. That’s roughly $3,800 a word.
