Michael Learned, best known as Olivia on The Waltons, moved to St. Gilgen, Austria, on the shore of Lake Wolfgang, when she was 11, and it still holds a special place in her heart. “To me, Austria is the most beautiful country in the world,” she tells Closer, adding that it’s hard not to think of The Sound of Music when you’re there. That’s no surprise because much of the 1965 musical was filmed in Salzburg, just a 30-minute drive from St. Gilgen. “It’s still just as beautiful as when I was a kid,” says Michael. “There’s a little more action now — they built a ski lift — but it still feels like you’re in the middle of a fairy tale. There are little white houses with geraniums and cows going up the mountain with flowers around their horns. It’s incredible.” —Reporting by Amanda Champagne-Meadows
