Based on the true story of Candy Montgomery, the miniseries follows the small-town Texas housewife who became infamous in 1980 when she claimed self-defense after hitting a neighbor 41 times with an axe — leading to a courtroom drama filled with twists, turns and one surprising verdict. Of course, it all brings up the obvious question: Why play another killer? “If somebody thinks it’s weird or somebody thinks that it’s a bad choice,” said Jessica, “well, this writing is too good.”
