Other bullion coins that took massive sums over their bullion value at this special auction hosted by Stack’s Bowers Galleries include the last specimen of a 2021 oneounce American Gold Eagle bearing its original 1986 design, with this piece fetching $77,500 – more than 45 times its metal value. Further making this coin special is that it, too, was personally struck by Ryder.
e 35th Anniversary American Eagle coins collectively sold for in excess of an astounding $4.6 million at a 700-lot sale.
Also claiming astronomical sums were two historically signicant silver coins that were also struck by the mint director. e last 2021 one-ounce American Silver Eagle with its vintage-1986 design scored $85,000 – an incredible 4,722 times its precious metal value of just $18. e rst 2021 American Silver Eagle bearing its current design hammered for $80,000 – that’s 4,444 times its silver value.
The Beatles’ 1968 animated movie masterpiece, Yellow Submarine, is being honored with a series of authentic, legal-tender coins. is special-edition collection is a historic rst for the enduring Beatles classic, and the coins are designed utilizing the psychedelically colorful artwork from the animated lm. e coin designs are anything but typical. e rst coin in the spotlight isn’t even round – it is in the iconic shape of the Yellow Submarine itself.
Additional legal-tender releases in the set include the evil Blue Meanies and the Fab Four. e limited-edition coins are made of either pure 24-karat gold or pure .999 silver and are available in various weights and sizes, including one ounce of pure 24-karat gold, 12 grams of pure 24-karat gold, one ounce of pure .999 silver, and 10 grams of pure .999 silver.
e coins are made by e Crown Mint and are the result of a new partnership between The Crown Mint and Apple Corps Ltd. e deal was brokered by Sony’s read Shop, the Beatles’ North American licensing agent.
