Marshall-Starke Development Center: supporting the community since 1965

- By Jacque Ryan

The Marshall-Starke Development Center has a mission to train, educate and advocate by empowering families and individuals to reach their potential. Individuals behind the organization emphasize that they value a positive attitude, creativity, accountability, honesty, productivity, a strong work ethic, divergent thinking and treating all people with respect and dignity.

The organization has assisted a wide range of individuals from various age groups and walks of life for more than five decades.

In addition to more recent offerings such as pre-school education and services for expectant mothers, the not-for-profit continues to provide comprehensive rehabilitative, vocational, and educational services to developmentally disabled individuals.

According to organization representatives, Marshall-Starke Development Center, Inc. was formed in 1965 by a small group of concerned and dedicated individuals striving to plan how to provide services and programs for the disadvantaged. Many of the initial members were parents of children
