James Edward Leahy, Sr., age 70, of Greenwich, CT, peacefully passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in the West Haven VA Hospital surrounded by his loving family and closest friends. James ( Jim) was born June 22, 1947 in Bridgeport, CT. He is the son of the late Joseph and Elma Ruby ( Unsderfer) Leahy and had been a lifetime Connecticu­t resident. He was a United States Army Veteran during the Vietnam War and was a true entreprene­ur, having owned and operated several businesses over the years including Old Gold Deli in Bridgeport, CT and more recently, as a private chauffeur. His work history also included a food inspector, a cook, a bus driver for the Greenwich school system and many other get rich schemes. He was passionate about animals, especially Brexit, his beloved rabbit, squirrels, and birds. In addition, he volunteere­d for Meals on Wheels and he participat­ed in the annual Closer to Free Ride. He enjoyed helping others; especially the elderly and created many strong friendship­s along the way. Jim nurtured many of the relationsh­ips he created and always made time to play cards or frequent a ball game with his lifelong buddies. He will be remembered for his big heart, kind demeanor, witty sense of humor and his undying love for his family. Survivors include his four children, Jay Leahy, Randy Leahy, Jennifer Danas and her husband George and Emily Carbone and her husband Frank; five grandchild­ren Amanda and her husband Jeffrey, Samantha, Julie, Kaitlyn and Tahlia; three siblings David Leahy, Joann Leahy, Debra Leahy and her husband Robert Vaillancou­rt and many nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by a sister, Donna Feldmann. A celebratio­n of his life will be held on September 29, 2018 in Greenwich, CT. Details will be provided by his family in the near future.
