Chatfield Farms

Numerous Amenities Appeal to Those Near and Far

- By Meg Barone

The appeal of Chatfield Farms is far reaching and has crossed state lines to lure people from distant places to the exclusive community for active adults in Beacon Falls.

David Rhodes and his wife Rosemarie were living in California when they made the decision to move back east. Vermont was home for Karen and Richard Grimm when they headed south to find a new home.

“We didn’t see ourselves living in Connecticut,” Karen Grimm said. Chatfield Farms, which is situated on 140 acres of pristine woodlands and gives its residents a genuine lifestyle of privacy, luxury, simplicity, and convenience, changed their minds.

For both couples the prime motivator for relocating to the state was proximity to family but Connecticut has dozens of active adult communities, any one of which would have put them within easy driving distance of children and grandchildren. There were many other factors that figured into their selection process and cemented in their minds the choice of Chatfield Farms.

Grimm said she and her husband had a list of everything they were looking for and found themselves ticking off each item on the list as they considered Chatfield Farms.

“We wanted single- family houses, we wanted something with a club house, we wanted a pool. The size of the community was important. Chatfield Farms had everything we wanted,” said Grimm, adding that this gated community is even better than they expected. “It’s a winner all the way around,” she said.

David and Rosemarie Rhodes did their research before narrowing the choice to one.

“We explored a number of 55- plus communities and we were attracted to Beacon Falls and Chatfield Farms by the detached single- family homes, the appearance and ambience of the homes, the quality of the homes, and the willingness of the builder to work with us to customize our home,” David Rhodes said. Rhodes and his wife added a pot- filler in the kitchen and an all- season room with walls of glass. “We wanted a house with lots of sunlight,” he said. They also had a hand in the design of the bathrooms. The builders and the staff are very responsive and responsible, Rhodes said.

And that’s not just as people are building their homes. The Chatfield Farms team is with their homeowners every step of the way through construction and beyond. That was quite evident after a freak tornado touched down in Beacon Falls and surrounding communities in May causing considerable destruction to the region and a loss of power for four days.

One recent homeowner said the Chatfield Farms team “went out of their way under very difficult circumstances to see to it that we were able to move in on time. We love our house and the people here couldn’t be nicer.” Further, the homeowner said, “The house itself is outstanding. My son is handicapped and required significant modifications to the original house design.” The team not only made it happen, they thought of things the homeowner never considered and implemented all of them. The homeowner said they were willing to accept 80% but Chatfield Farms delivered 100%.

In addition to the club house and pool Grimm said “the people are unbelievably friendly… We moved here not knowing anybody and we have made a number of good friends.”

Rhodes added that the Chatfield Farms community has a very active social committee. “It’s a very neighborly, welcoming and social group of people,” he said.

“Right from the beginning we had the benefit of meeting the residents who live here,” he said. Rhodes said another couple allowed him and his wife to visit their home to “kick the tires,” so to speak. He said it was helpful to visit an actual home and not just a staged model.

Pickleball has become very popular among the residents. There is also a bocce court, walking trails, clubs and activities. “We have a small library here. You can stay here and find plenty to do,” Grimm said.

“At Chatfield Farms we are focused on creating the home and lifestyle our customers deserve. At this point in life there is no reason to settle for second best. If you want to own a real home in a great community, Chatfield Farms is really the clear choice,” according to Matthew Gilchrist, president of EG Home LLC, which owns and operates Chatfield Farms.

“This is a very attractive place to be … It’s a wonderful community. My wife and I love it here. No regrets except maybe why we didn’t move her sooner,” Rhodes said.
