Trumbull takes two titles
TRUMBULL — The Trumbull 14U Babe Ruth team won the state championship Thursday night with a 2- 1 win over Newtown at Unity Park.
Bryan Kraus had two hits and scored the game- winning run on Johnny Bova’s double in the bottom of the seventh and Jack Wallace doubled twice and scored the team’s first run in the first on a RBI- single by Dylan Moran. Kraus also pitched 62⁄ innings with 12 strikeouts, while Justin Delaney earned the win in relief of Kraus in the seventh.
Newtown’s Jack Petersen singled and scored the team’s lone run in the fourth.
Trumbull advances to next weekend’s Babe Ruth New England Regional Tournament at McMahon HS in Norwalk.
TRUMBULL 12U WINS 50/ 70 CHAMPIONSHIP
MIDDLETOWN — The Trumbull 12U Intermediate All- Stars won the 50/ 70 state championship Thursday night with a 12- 1, four- inning win over Coginchaug at Peckham Field in Middletown.
Aiden Stewart drove in two runs in the first, as the Trumbull team batted around and jumped out to a 4- 0 lead. The team added five runs in the third on RBIs by Joey Sabato, Scott Harvey, Justin Horton, Billy Chappa ( 2- for- 2) and Chris Sarlo.
Sabato also picked up the win on the mound, allowing six hits and striking out eight while walking none.
Trumbull advances to the Little League Intermediate 50/ 70 Eastern Regionals held in Commack, N. Y., and will play the New Hampshire state champion on July 21 at 11 a. m. in the opening round.
