Mary Rose ( Matera) Del Re

-

July 18, 1921- July 27, 2018

Having celebrated her 97th birthday last week, Mary Rose ( Matera) Del Re rightfully took her place in Heaven, Friday, July 27, 2018. Born and raised her entire life in Bridgeport, CT, on July 18, 1921. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Michael J. Del Re, Sr. Mary did spend a brief time near the end of her life residing in Monroe, CT, where she would enjoy having coffee on the porch watching the wild turkeys. Though not formally educated, Mary was wise and caring, and passed on more knowledge and love to her survivors in more ways than any of us realize.

Mary will be remembered for many things but most of all for her devotion and dedication to caring for those she loved, her sense of humor, her devilish laugh, and for having created the largest and most well- done pancake in history! There is no doubt her greatest joy in her long and blessed life was her son, Mike; a joy she spent her life expressing at any chance she could find and to anyone who would listen. Each night as you lay your head on your pillow, please remember those most important in your life and be thankful for them – Mary did, and it sustained her for 97 years! Her family would love to express their deep appreciation and great thanks to the loving and supportive team at Ludlowe Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Fairfield, CT, for all the love and support they provided not only to Mary but to them as well. She was loved by all there and was treated as if she were their mother especially her “third floor angels”. Mary treated each of them with the same love as they treated her, and her daily banter will be sorely missed by all.

She is survived by her loving son, Michael J. Del Re Jr. ( Donna), grandson, Michael J. Del Re III ( Jennie Casceillo), great- grandchildren; Dominic Michael Del Re and Victoria Nicolina Del Re, special nieces, Carol Costanzo ( Lenny) and Lorraine Provost ( John) and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins who cared for her deeply and she for them. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Nicolina and Dominick Matera, and her sister Rose Ceccarelli.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 10: 00 a. m. DIRECTLY in St. Margaret’s Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull, CT. Her family invites you to join them in sharing some special memories of her on Monday from 4: 00 p. m. to 7: 00 p. m. in the Parente- Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being sent to: The Alzheimer’s association, 607 Main Ave., Norwalk, CT 06851, in the hope of finding a cure for others and to end not only their suffering but their families as well as they experience a long good- bye.
