Robert John Lender Sr.

Robert J. Lender Sr., age 93, of Trumbull, passed away at Bridgeport Hospital on July 19, 2018. He was born in Irvington, NJ and was a resident of Weston for more than 40 years. He was an army veteran who served his country honorably during WWII.

Robert had a successful engineering career after graduating with a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering – which he attended on the GI bill. Early in his career, he was involved in the Space Program – designing instruments used by the Mercury/ Gemini/ Apollo programs – earning numerous patents. Following this, he was the GM of a small aircraft instrument company in Wichita, KS and President of a small motor company in Norwalk, CT, where he received patents related to motor design.

Following his retirement, Robert and his wife were active volunteers at numerous facilities in their community – such as Literacy Volunteers of America. Robert was on the board of directors at the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce.

He was a Sunday school teacher at Cranford Presbyterian Church in New Jersey and most recently a member of the Wilton Presbyterian Church.

Robert loved to read, listen to music and be with his wife/ family. While living in Wichita he received his pilot’s license and was proud of his solo flight leading to it.

Robert is survived by his three children, Lynn Ross of Royston, Herts, England; Robert Jr., and his wife Monica of Pepperell, MA and Kurt and his wife Jean of Aloha, OR; a brother Raymond and his wife Dee of Wayne, NJ; four grandchildren; and most recently a greatgrandchild in New Zealand. He was predeceased by his loving wife Joan, and his brother Herman. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 31st at 11 a. m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 31st. from 10: 00 a. m. until the time of service.
