Doyle ad shows him as crime stopper
Paul Doyle is the Democratic attorney general candidate who stopped a bank robber.
His first campaign commercial, which will run on television and radio, reminds voters of the day in 2015 when Doyle was a hero as well as a state senator.
Doyle was sitting in a Webster Bank in Rocky Hill, waiting to complete a banking transaction for his small law firm, when he heard a scream.
Awoman shouted “He stole my money!” and at that Doyle, a former college track runner, was on his feet, chasing the thief out of the bank and down a busy fivelane avenue. Doyle followed the man down an alley and on a half- mile chase that ended in a shopping plaza parking lot. There, the man finally complied with Doyle’s shouts of “Drop it!”
The robber was Christopher Lunn, who had several previous arrests for burglary, driving to endanger and breaking and entering, ac- cording to the Cape Cod Times. He was also charged in one incident with trying to use a stolen construction excavator to run down five cops.
Lunn had stolen $ 700 from the woman who was depositing the cash at the bank, police said. Doyle bent to pick up the bills blowing in the wind as Lunn scampered away. He was found and charged seven months later.
“( Doyle) got the money back because it was the right thing do,” Doyle’s ad says. “That’s who he is.”
Doyle, a Wethersfield resident, is running against party- endorsed candidate William Tong, a state representative from Stamford, and former federal prosecutor Chris Mattei of Hartford in the Aug. 14 primary.
