Sandra Choronzy

-

Sandra Choronzy, age 74, of Derby, formerly of Bridgeport, entered into eternal life on July 30, 2018. Born in Wilkes- Barre, PA, Sandy was the daughter to the late Alexander and Genevieve Hera Choronzy. She attended Immaculata College and Medaille College and received an A. A. S. degree in Social Science in 1964, with Minors in Science and English. In her career as a teacher, she dedicated her life to students at St. Augustine in Bridgeport, Summer School at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, and until her retirement, St. Lawrence in Shelton. While at St. Lawrence, she taught Religion and Science in the upper grades. She had a strong interest in Science, and encouraged students to conduct experiments and display in science fairs. Sandy established strong relationships with both her students and fellow teachers. She was always there for them, in and out of school. In addition to sharing her educational expertise, she became a spiritual guide to all those she met and continued to share her faith throughout her retirement years. Sandy was an admirable mentor, but more importantly, a true friend to all those who had the privilege to know her. A devout Catholic, Sandy was a parishioner at

St. Michael’s Church in Derby, and her devotion to Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary was a message she joyfully shared with family and friends. She truly believed in the power of prayer and her “prayer list” was limitless. Sandy enjoyed a large, extended family of beloved friends, with whom she shared many holidays and celebrations. All those who loved her will miss her generous spirit, but their sadness is comforted in the knowledge that Sandy is in her eternal home in Heaven. Sandy’s memory will be lovingly remembered by her aunt, Bernardine Hera King, of Natural Bridge, VA; a cousin, Anne Russek, and her husband, Stephen, of Natural Bridge, VA; and a host of close friends whom she considered family. In addition to her parents, Sandy was predeceased by two cousins, Robert King of Lexington, VA and Rives King, of New Jersey. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11: 00 a. m. at St. Michael’s Church, 75 Derby Avenue, Derby, CT 06418. Interment will be held privately. Calling hours will be held in the church’s community room from 10: 00 a. m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Mephis, TN 38105.
