Robert G. Holmes

Robert G. Holmes, 97, of Fairfield, the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Agnes Holmes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Born in Guilford, Maine to Lewis and Marcia Holmes, he was a resident of Fairfield for over 35 years prior to moving into assisted living at Carriage Green in Milford a little over a year ago.

Bob graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After serving in the US Air Force in World War II, he worked for General Electric for 40 years. His work took him to Connecticut, North Carolina, England, Massachusetts, Singapore and finally Connecticut once again.

Upon retirement, Bob and his wife Agnes traveled extensively in Europe and Asia, and particularly treasured their visits to India, China and countries of Southeast Asia. When home, Bob enjoyed bowling and golf and was very involved in organizing leagues in both sports.

He is survived by his sons, William ( April) Holmes of Athens, Ohio and Richard ( Karen) Holmes of Portland, Oregon, son- in- law, Robert Heussler of Hamden, four grandchildren, Melinda Power, Thomas Holmes, Stephen Heussler and Gary Heussler, and four great- grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Tabitha and Nathaniel. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Heussler and his brother Allan.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11: 00 a. m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield. Friends may greet Bob’s family from 9: 30 a. m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
