Fairview at Oxford Greens: Best- Kept Secret in Connecticut

- By Meg Barone

“Do You Want to Know a Secret” is the title of a Beatles’ song on the album Please, Please Me. The album was released in 1963, three years after Del Webb opened his revolutionary retirement community, Sun City in Arizona. Webb’s visionary community concept led to a profound change in senior housing that evolved to cater to their increasingly active lifestyle. His company and many others opened thousands of active adult communities throughout the country. One of the Del Webb Development Company’s best kept secrets is its active adult community in Connecticut – Fairview at Oxford Greens in the Town of Oxford. Fairview at Oxford Greens offers four styles of homes, including one- level living. “Each new construction home has a wide selection of high quality finishes, innovative floor plans and beautiful designs that are sure to fit your needs … You get the benefit of more than six decades of homebuilding experience,” according to the Del Webb company website. But it offers far more than just beautiful homes. Fairview at Oxford Greens has a neighborly feel, provides a wealth of activities, and is set in a location that some have referred to as “a little slice of heaven.” Oxford is a quiet, rural community that has jealously protected its character while responsibly approaching economic development. Even with local amenities and conveniences, even with the beautiful, well- built houses, what really sets apart Fairview at Oxford Greens from its competitors is its lifestyle, according to Ronda Margolis, community sales manager for Fairview. This attractive, active adult community sits alongside the Golf Club at Oxford Greens, a privately- owned an 18- hole course with a driving range, putting green and on- site restaurant that is open to the public; rated fourth best public golf course in Connecticut by Golfweek magazine and Golf. com. The 17,000- square- foot clubhouse, called The Ridge Club, is the hub of the community, where Fairview owners enjoy exclusive use of its outdoor and heated indoor swimming pools, spa tub, tennis and pickle ball courts, and bocce court. The clubhouse also features a fitness center, ballroom, billiards, and rooms which accommodate the many interests and activities of residents. “There’s such an atmosphere of friendliness and energy in the community,” one resident said. Margolis said the community offers numerous social and cultural events and activities in which residents immerse themselves. “We have culture here second to none,” she said. There are more than 50 clubs and activities that take place every day, reflecting the home- owners’ wide- spread hobbies and interests, among them arts and crafts, hiking, dining, photography, travel, and golf. There are also opportunities to volunteer for charitable causes. A full time lifestyle director is on hand to help facilitate those many activities and special events. “It was really easy to plug into events and the welcoming culture,” one of the homeowners said. With all it has to offer Fairview at Oxford Greens makes it hard for any other place to compete, Margolis said, adding it’s not uncommon to hear Fairview homeowners say “I wish I did this sooner” or “This was the best move I’ve ever made.” And even more so since the opening of Quarry Walk village center, which has augmented Fairview’s own attractions, making Oxford and Fairview both more desirable. Residents of the town in general, and Fairview in particular, don’t have to travel very far any more to shop, dine, or get to medical appointments. Quarry Walk is a mixed- use district with retail stores anchored by a supermarket. It also has a walking trail. “Fairview at Oxford Greens is the best kept secret in Connecticut,” one of its homeowners said.
