Comic scandal
Steve Martin’s play about what happens after a woman’s bloomers fall down — very briefly — during a parade in early 20thcentury Vienna is getting a production in Sherman. “The Underpants” examines the scandal that erupts after a government clerk’s wife suffers a wardrobe malfunction. He fears it might cost his job, but is oblivious to the two men who were mesmerized by the public display and who rent rooms in the clerk’s house. Martin sends up social conventions in his laugh- packed play. Sherman Playhouse, 5 Route 39 North. Friday, Sept 21 to Saturday, Oct. 13. $ 24. 860- 354- 3622, shermanplayers.org
