When Al Lenoce designed the stately colonial on Spinning Wheel Road, he never envisioned the glorious, award- winning gardens that would eventually envelope the .84- acre property.

But after he and his wife, Nancy, received a gift of five rose bushes in 1996, those bushes planted a seed of interest in gardening that has blossomed into an enchanting, storybook setting that has even graced the pages of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

The Lenoce’s garden is one of the largest private rose collections in the state with an extensive variety of rose bushes on the property. The captivating English gardens feature several separate pocket gardens, pergolas, arbors, swings, benches, birdhouses, stone walking paths, fountains, a wishing well, Koi pond and water garden with its own bridge and stream.

Over the years, the gardens have attracted designers, photographers, artists and brides, along with hundreds of birds and butterflies. The garden has been designated by the National Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife Habitat.

Even after the roses finish blooming, there are multitudes of other perennials, annuals and specimen shrubs that provide color throughout the summer and into the fall. Cherry trees grace the front of the home, providing a spectacular display of blossoms in the spring.

A cobblestone patterned concrete walkway lined with boxwoods leads to a pillared front porch with double doors that open into the entry foyer. Throughout the home, there are several vantage points from which to take in the picturesque surroundings.

“The many large windows, sliding doors and French doors across the back of the home allow Al and I to enjoy the changing views of the seasons and the succession of bloom in

the gardens,” Nancy Lenoce said. “Having a view from every room is relaxing.”

Hardwood floors, crown and picture frame moldings enhance the elegant sunken living room while a bay window and French doors frame the views of the charming slate patio.

The formal dining room is also finely appointed and features sliding glass doors that open to the deck. Both the deck and patio overlook the captivating grounds, bursting with color and fragrance, creating a place of absolute tranquility and serenity.

Nancy Lenoce adds that the home has many areas that lend themselves well to entertaining as well as providing space for a variety of activities for all members of the family.

The tastefully remodeled eatin- kitchen has a wonderful garden bay window overlooking the patio. It also features attractive Kraftmaid cherry cabinetry, granite counters, a ceramic tile backsplash, a breakfast bar, pass- throughs to both the dining room and family room.

The warm and inviting family room has a floor- to- ceiling wood- burning brick fireplace, a beamed ceiling and sliders leading to the three- season sunporch with beamed vaulted ceiling and walls of windows overlooking the gardens. A private study completes the main level.

On the upper level, five bed- rooms, including the master bedroom suite, offer ample space for family and guests. The fifth bedroom or bonus room is located off fourth bedroom and has a cathedral ceiling, skylights, built- ins and a charming window seat with storage.

The finished lower level features a recreation room, den and workshop. Additional storage can be found in the two- car attached garage as well as in the Klotter Farm storage shed. The convenient location is close to schools, shopping, recreation areas, restaurants and major commuting routes.
