Lillian F. Carrara

-

Lillian Christino Carrara, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Antonio “Check” Carrara, passed away with her family by her side, on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. Known as “Miss Lily”, she was one of 10 children born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Alfred and Lucia Ferrara Christino. An “East Sider”, she met her husband at the Ritz Ballroom where they danced to the Big Band music of the forties. They were married on September 11, 1948, and no doubt will be dancing together again this year when they celebrate their 70th Anniversary in Heaven! Her first job during high school was at Marcel’s Department Store. She later joined the defense workforce at General Electric and became a Leading Hand working throughout her early years of marriage while her husband was stationed overseas in Korea. She became a stay- athome mom after the births of their two daughters and resided in Stratford. Flowers were her passion, and after her daughters were grown, she went back to school and became a Floral Designer creating many arrangements, corsages and wedding flowers for friends and family. Miss Lily loved to knit and used her talents to create and donate hundreds of shawls and blankets that provided warmth and comfort to cancer patients at various organizations, including Yale Cancer Center, Saint Raphael Father McGiveney Cancer Care Center, The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center, Caring Hospice Services, Project Linus and Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang. She knitted many scarves, blankets, sweaters and hats that she lovingly gifted to family and many wonderful friends. Besides spending time with her family, Miss Lily enjoyed casino trips to Las Vegas, NV, Atlantic City, NJ, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casinos in CT, and was thrilled when she won a small jackpot or two. She loved entertaining her daughter’s friends and their children and looked forward to their annual Holiday parties and fund- raising gatherings they hosted throughout the year. We will lovingly remember Miss Lily for her numerous flower gardens, always changing curtains, knitted items and the many lessons she taught us as well as what we experienced by having her in our lives. She will be dearly missed, and until we’re together again, we will cherish the memories we shared with her. We were truly blessed, and we thank God for the gift of Miss Lily! Besides her husband Check, she was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her muchloved and devoted daughters Peggy Carrara, with whom she resided, Christina Bronstein and her husband Mel of Trumbull, loving grandchildren Chase Bronstein and Cydney Bronstein, and dog “good ole boy” Hap. She also leaves behind sisters, Chris Cristino, Edith Roviello and many treasured friends. A memorial mass and reception to celebrate the life of Miss Lily will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Mrs. Lillian Carrara to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, 1088 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06605 or to a charity of your choice. The Adzima Funeral HomeStratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy you with all good things, and keep you healthy too; and you will be like a well- watered garden, like and ever- flowing spring.
