1 PARADE MARSHAL HONOR PART OF A FAMILY TRADITION

-

A Stratford mant who has been a major sponsor of the Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Parade for years will serve as the 2019 parade’s grand marshal.

Peter Carroll, a business manager of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 488, grew up in Bridgeport and has been a Stratford resident for the past 40 years. He has served as a justice of the peace and was a member of Stratford’s planning commission and recreation commission.

“Peter Carroll will make a dynamic grand marshal because he embraces his Irish heritage and his family is a pillar of the Bridgeport community,” said Fred Garrity Jr., the treasurer of the parade’s committee who recommended Carroll to serve as the 2019 grand marshal.

He follows in the footsteps of his two brothers, Bill Car- roll and Frank Carroll, who have served as grand marshals for the parade in the past — Bill in 1992 and Frank in 2011.

As grand marshal, Carroll will receive his silk sash and green blazer at the Grand Marshal’s Ball on Saturday, Jan. 19. The 2018 grand marshals, Ann Marie Curtin and David Curtin, will present the sash and blazer to Carroll.

The ball serves as a fundraiser for the parade, which will march down Bridgeport’s downtown streets on Friday, March 15.
