Dr. Iscela Rosa Bernal, age 48, of Easton, beloved wife of Dermot G. Mitchell, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Yale- New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Lima, Peru, Iscela received her undergradu­ate degree and a Master’s degree from William Patterson University in Wayne, NJ and Master’s and Doctorate Degrees from the University of Bridgeport, CT, in Acupunctur­e and Naturopath­ic Medicine. She was a board certified and Licensed Naturopath­ic Physician. Dr. Bernal owned and practiced at the Bernal Center, Inc. in Westport, CT, specializi­ng in Acupunctur­e and Naturopath­ic Medicine where she developed many close relationsh­ips with her numerous patients. Prior to becoming a physician, Iscela worked at the New York Blood Center in New York City and as an AIDS research biotechnol­ogist for many years, and authored several research papers. Survivors in addition to her beloved husband Dermot Mitchell include her mother, Rosa Molina Nanetti de Bernal; a brother, David Bernal both of Lima, Peru, and several aunts, uncles and cousins in the United States and Peru. She was predecease­d by her father, a noted Physician and Anesthesio­logist, Dr. Orlando Bernal. A funeral service celebratin­g Dr. Bernal’s life will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11: 30 a. m. at Covenant Church, 1 Sport Hill Road, Easton with the Rev, Cary Slater Officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family Friday, November 16, 2018 from 4- 8 p. m. in the SpearMille­r Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
