Dr. Iscela Bernal
Dr. Iscela Rosa Bernal, age 48, of Easton, beloved wife of Dermot G. Mitchell, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Yale- New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Lima, Peru, Iscela received her undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree from William Patterson University in Wayne, NJ and Master’s and Doctorate Degrees from the University of Bridgeport, CT, in Acupuncture and Naturopathic Medicine. She was a board certified and Licensed Naturopathic Physician. Dr. Bernal owned and practiced at the Bernal Center, Inc. in Westport, CT, specializing in Acupuncture and Naturopathic Medicine where she developed many close relationships with her numerous patients. Prior to becoming a physician, Iscela worked at the New York Blood Center in New York City and as an AIDS research biotechnologist for many years, and authored several research papers. Survivors in addition to her beloved husband Dermot Mitchell include her mother, Rosa Molina Nanetti de Bernal; a brother, David Bernal both of Lima, Peru, and several aunts, uncles and cousins in the United States and Peru. She was predeceased by her father, a noted Physician and Anesthesiologist, Dr. Orlando Bernal. A funeral service celebrating Dr. Bernal’s life will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11: 30 a. m. at Covenant Church, 1 Sport Hill Road, Easton with the Rev, Cary Slater Officiating. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family Friday, November 16, 2018 from 4- 8 p. m. in the SpearMiller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
