Carolyn Elizabeth Murphy

Carolyn Elizabeth Murphy, age 87, of Bridgeport, widow of William Murphy passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Born in Drewryville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Viola Turner Murrell. She is survived by a sister Mamie Christine Harris and her husband, Shelton of Drewryville, VA and 4 nieces and 5 nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by her sister, Hazel Powell and her brothers, Thomas and McKinley Murrell. Carolyn was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge Grand Chapter # 72 of Franklin, VA, a treasurer for many years with the East End Baptist Tabernacle Church Ushers and the Financial Secretary for the Fairfield County Ushers. She enjoyed bowling over forty years with various bowling leagues including the Inter Church mixed bowling league and the International bowling league. “Carolyn worked with the Newman Family over 50 years as a household administrator and was also a beloved friend and member of their extended family. She will be deeply missed by Mrs. Newman, Susan, Stephanie, Nell, Lissy, Clea, Peter and Henry and by all of their friends and spouses who knew her.” Friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral service on Wednesday November 14, 2018 at 11: 00 a. m. in the East End Baptist Tabernacle Church, 548 Central Ave. Bridgeport with Rev. Dr. C. L. Stallworth, Officiating. Burial will be held in Pleasant Plain Cemetery, Drewryville, VA. Friends may greet the family for visitation at the church on Wednesday morning from 9: 00 a. m. to 11: 00 a. m. prior to services.
