BRIDGEPORT — Five players scored in double figures in the Purple Knights’ season- opening win over the Devils.

John Middleton had a team- high 16 points and Jose Pabon- Sanchez and Nemanja Zubac each scored 14 points off the bench to lead Bridgeport’s offense. Starters Eric Rankin and Vakas Iqbal added 11 and 10 points, respective­ly.

The Purple Knights ( 1- 0) led 61- 45 at halftime.

Paddy Casey scored a game- high 20 points, including 13- for- 17 from the free throw line, for USciences ( 0- 1).

NEW HAVEN 64, UB WOMEN 31

BRIDGEPORT — The Purple Knights were held to single digits in points in three of the game’s four quarters in a seasonopen­ing loss to the Chargers.

Bridgeport ( 0- 1) shot 19.0 percent from the floor in the game ( 11- for- 58), including 2for- 24 ( 8.3 percent) from behind the threepoint arc. Jaqualah Holliman had eight points and six rebounds to lead the Purple Knights.

Camryn DeBose and Micah Wormack scored 19 and 17 points, respective­ly, in the win for New Haven ( 1- 0).

MEN’S HOCKEY

Army West Point 4, Sacred Heart 1: Marcel Godbout scored in the second period off an assist from Ryan Steele and Brett Magnus made 24 saves in goal in the loss for the Pioneers ( 2- 4- 1, 2- 2 AHA) at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Fairfield 3, Niagara 2: Alexis Rich had 68 assists and 24 digs, Mayda Garcia had 29 kills and 26 digs and Taylor Rudeen had 21 digs in the win for the Stags ( 12- 14, 11- 6 MAAC) in Fairfield.

Sacred Heart 3, Robert Morris 1: Sarah Ciszek had 44 assists, eight digs and five kills, Liisel Nelis had 19 kills and 15 digs and Alix Polk had 10 digs and eight kills in the win for the Pioneers ( 11- 18, 5- 9 NEC) in Moon Township, Pa.
