1 PEDESTRIAN SERIOUS BUT STABLE AFTER HIT- AND- RUN
The pedestrian hit by a vehicle that fled the scene Friday evening has been identified as Raymond Benson, 43, of Bridgeport, police said Saturday.
Benson was listed in serious but stable condition at St. Vincent’s Hospital, police said. Two other people also were reported as hit, possibly by the same driver, but their conditions were unavailable Saturday.
Around 5: 48 p. m., a police officer called in to dispatch for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at Washington Avenue and James Street. The vehicle involved was said to have fled after hitting the victim and had heavy front end damage, reports indicated.
At the scene around 6 p. m., police officers set up crime scene tape and diverted traffic down one- way side streets like Milne Street off Washington Avenue. At that intersection, police investigated what appeared to be a piece of a bumper.
“It might be from that car ( that hit the victim), or it might just be debris from another car,” said one of the officers who checked it over with a flashlight.
