Gabriel Fine of West Hartford died peacefully Wednesday, November 21, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband for 68 years to the late Ruth Lillian Fine. Born in Hartford on September 24, 1923, he was the son of Rose and Frank Fine. Gabriel was a graduate of Hartford Public High School, received a B. S. Degree from Central Connecticu­t State College and a Masters degree and a 6 year education certificat­e from the University of Hartford’s. He was an educator in the Simsbury school system and retired as the Principal of the Latimer Lane Elementary School in Simsbury. He was a life- long member of Congregati­on Beth Israel in West Hartford and a member of the West Hartford Regents. He and Ruth loved vacationin­g in the summertime with their family at their home at Cape Cod and he and Ruth traveled yearly to Aruba. Gabriel was an avid New York Giants and Boston Celtics fan. He also loved to play golf. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r and great- grandfathe­r. He is survived by his two cherished daughters Sheryl Goldberg and her husband Lenny from Manchester and Lyn Fine- McCarthy and her husband Jim from Easton, his adored grandchild­ren, Jennifer Goldberg and her husband Matt, Jason and his wife Emily and Erica Singer Matthews and great- grandchild Lino. A funeral will be held on Monday, November 26 at 11: 00 a. m. in the chapel of Congregati­on Beth Israel, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford with Rabbi Michael Pincus officiatin­g. Interment will follow at the Beth Israel Cemetery, 15 Jackson Street, off of Arch Street, in Avon. Following interment, the family will receive friends at the residence in Manchester up until 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Red Cross, 209 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT, 06032 or to the Swim Across the Sound, St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation, 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT. 06606. The family expresses its heartfelt appreciati­on to all the caregivers and staff at Brookdale Chatfield Senior Living in West Hartford. Gabriel will be forever in our hearts.
