Binghamton holds off Sacred Heart

BINGHAMTON, N. Y. — Sam Sessoms scored 19 points with eight rebounds and four assists, J. C. Show added 14 points and Binghamton beat Sacred Heart 78- 73 on Saturday.

Tyler Stewart scored 13 points and Chancellor Barnard added 11 and grabbed eight rebounds for the Bearcats ( 2- 4), who shot 55 percent and held the Pioneers to 33 percent 78 73

BUCKNELL 77, FAIRFIELD WOMEN 54

PROVIDENCE, R. I. — The Bison made shot 54.7 percent from the floor in a win over the Stags at the Turkey Tip- Off at Brown.

Ten players scored at least two points in the win for Bucknell ( 4- 2), led by Ellie Mack and Abby Kapp, who scored 19 and 12 points, respective­ly.

Katie Armstrong and Khadidiato­u Diouf scored 16 points apiece in the loss for Fairfield ( 2- 3).

The game was tied at 11- 11 at the 4: 10 mark of the first quarter, but the Bison took the lead for good by ending the frame on a 14- 4 run to take a 25- 14 advantage going into the second quarter.

BENTLEY 83, BRIDGEPORT WOMEN 48

BRIDGEPORT — Katie Meriggioli scored a game- high 26 points and the Falcons’ led for almost the entire game in a non- league win over the Purple Knights.

Bridgeport ( 1- 3) led 2- 0 after the opening tipoff, but Bentley ( 6- 0) responded with a 12- 0 run and stayed in the lead for the remainder of the game.

Jaeonna Sutton and Nkechi Ilang scored 13 and 12 points, respective­ly, off the bench and Sarah Middleton added 10 points in the loss for the Purple Knights.

Bridgeport shot 28.6 percent from the floor in the game ( 18- for- 63), including 23.8 percent ( 5- for- 21) from threepoint range.

Canisius 3, Sacred Heart 2: Jordan Kaplan and Marcel Godbout each scored one goal in the first period and Brett Magnus made 24 saves in goal in the loss for the Pioneers ( 2- 7- 2, 2- 5- 1 AHA) in Buffalo, N. Y.

Caleb Stewart’s goahead 3 put the Bearcats up 42- 39 and Tyler Stewart’s 3 capped a 7- 0 run for a 54- 45 lead with 12: 51 to go. The Pioneers closed to 68- 65 on E. J. Anosike’s free throw and to 75- 71 on Sean Hoehn’s 3 with 45 seconds left. Richard Caldwell Jr. and Show combined for three free throws from there to keep the game out of reach.

Barnard’s 3- point play with 1: 24 left put the Pioneers up 33- 32 at halftime after a back- and- forth first half.

Sacred Heart 4, New England College 0: Lilly Cleary and Jayne Lewis each had one goal and one assist and Katie Stueve and Samantha Shoebottom scored one goal apiece in the win for the Pioneers ( 8- 3- 1) at The Rinks at Shelton.
