Don­ald Sharpe, 85, died De­cem­ber 29, 2018, at his home in Sandy Hook. He leaves Jane, his wife of 52 years, his son Mar­cus, of Brook­field, and daugh­ter Kim, and her hus­band, Dave Mead, of New­town and Bow­ersville, GA. Born Oc­to­ber 17, 1933 in New­ton High­lands, MA., Mr. Sharpe was the son of the late Dr. L. Ed­ward Vil­li­aume Jr. and Lula F. Sharpe. In ad­di­tion to his wife, chil­dren, and many rel­a­tives, he leaves his beloved grand­chil­dren, Jack­son Don­ald Sharpe, and Ryan Louis Sharpe, of Brook­field.

Mr. Sharpe was the for­mer ed­i­tor of the New Haven Reg­is­ter and Jour­nal- Courier and a vice pres­i­dent of the par­ent cor­po­ra­tion. He also spent nearly 20 years as an ed­i­tor at the Connecticut Post. Be­fore join­ing these pa­pers, he worked at the New York Daily News, the Danbury News- Times, the New Mil­ford Times and the Jack­sonville Daily News.

He was also a for­mer pres­i­dent of the Connecticut As­so­ci­ated Press, vice pres­i­dent of the New Eng­land So­ci­ety of News­pa­per Ex­ec­u­tives, and a mem­ber of the New Eng­land AP News Ex­ec­u­tives and the UPI New Eng­land Ad­vi­sory Board. He was a sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps dur­ing the Korean War. Ear­lier, he at­tended the Mas­sachusetts In­sti­tute of Tech­nol­ogy.

A cel­e­bra­tion of his life will be Satur­day, Jan­uary 12 at 11 a. m. at the New­town United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook. Burial will be pri­vate.
