Donald Sharpe, 85, died December 29, 2018, at his home in Sandy Hook. He leaves Jane, his wife of 52 years, his son Marcus, of Brookfield, and daughter Kim, and her husband, Dave Mead, of Newtown and Bowersvill­e, GA. Born October 17, 1933 in Newton Highlands, MA., Mr. Sharpe was the son of the late Dr. L. Edward Villiaume Jr. and Lula F. Sharpe. In addition to his wife, children, and many relatives, he leaves his beloved grandchild­ren, Jackson Donald Sharpe, and Ryan Louis Sharpe, of Brookfield.

Mr. Sharpe was the former editor of the New Haven Register and Journal- Courier and a vice president of the parent corporatio­n. He also spent nearly 20 years as an editor at the Connecticu­t Post. Before joining these papers, he worked at the New York Daily News, the Danbury News- Times, the New Milford Times and the Jacksonvil­le Daily News.

He was also a former president of the Connecticu­t Associated Press, vice president of the New England Society of Newspaper Executives, and a member of the New England AP News Executives and the UPI New England Advisory Board. He was a sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Earlier, he attended the Massachuse­tts Institute of Technology.

A celebratio­n of his life will be Saturday, January 12 at 11 a. m. at the Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook. Burial will be private. Friends may consider a gift in his memory to the Amur Tiger Habitat, Connecticu­t’s Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. 06610
