Miller running for reelection unopposed
SEYMOUR — While residents won’t be choosing a new First Selectman on Tuesday, they will be voting on new selectmen and members on the board of finance, board of education, board of assessment appeals, planning and zoning, police commission and library trustees.
First SelectmanW. Kurt Miller is running unopposed, as is Kwame Dunbar, seeking a twoyear term on the Board of Finance.
The town also is asking voters to decide on three resolutions: to sell bonds to finance $ 5 million of road and other infrastructure repairs, to sell bonds to finance $ 1.4 million in communications equipment for the town’s emergency services departments and to sell bonds to finance $ 15 million for a new community center.
Here is a list of contested races in town. Selectman, four will be seated: incumbents Robert VanEgghen, a Democrat, and Republicans Al Bruno, Robert Findley, Trisha Danka and Annmarie Drugonis, and Democrat Christopher Bowen.
Board of Finance, three will be seated for a full term: incumbentsWilliam Sawicki Sr. and Krystyn Hanewicz, both Democrats, and Republican Jim Cretella, and Republican Bettyann Peck.
Board of Finance alternates, three will be seated: Democrats Grace Brangwynne and Jeffrey Hanewicz, and Republicans
PaulWetowitz and Gary Popielasz.
Board of Education, two will be seated: incumbents James Garofolo and Kristen Harmeling, Democrats, and Republican Jay Hatfield, and Republican Beth Nesteriak.
Board of Assessment Appeals, two will be seated: incumbents Thomas LaPaglia, a Democratic and Christopher Drugonis, a Republican, and candidates Saundra J. Gesek, a Democrat, andWendy J. Rossi, a Republican.
Planning and Zoning full term, three will be seated: incumbents Joseph Niezelski, Walter Birdsell and Thomas Lavranchuk, Republicans, and candidate Stephan Behuniak, a Democrat.
Police commissioners, full term, three will be seated: incumbents Bill Paecht and David Bitso, Republicans, and candidates Thomas Bennett, a Democrat, and Kyle Kelley, a Republican.
Police commissioner, twoyear vacancy, one will be seated: incumbent Colleen Fries, a Democrat, and John Duke, a Republican.
Library trustees, three will be seated: incumbents Jean Uhelsky, a Democrat, and Republicans Thomas N. Schutte and DebbieWasikowski, and candidates Elizabeth AlvarezJames, a Democrat, and Joyce Koslowski, a Republican.
