Temple being challenged byHellman in top race

OXFORD — Residents will be at the polls Tuesday to choose town leadership for the next several years, with contested races for First Selectman, selectman, board of finance, board of education, board of assessment appeals and planning and zoning.

Here is a rundown of the candidates: First Selectman: incumbent George Temple, a Republican, is being challenged by Democrat Betti R. Hellman.

Selectman, only one will be seated: incumbent Arnold Jensen, a Republican, or Democrat Heather Ann Haney.

Board of Finance, three will be seated for a full term: incumbents Susan L. Arpin, a Democrat, and Dana D. Flach, a Republican; and candidates Diane Soracco, a Democrat, and Kathryn A. Dennen, a Republican.

Board of Education, four will be seated for a full term: incumbents Christin M. Kimball and Debbie Sherman, both Democrats, and Stephanie M. Miller and Joseh Matusovich IV, both Republican­s; and candidates Ellen S. Fox, a Democrat, and Michael C. Koosa, a Republican.

Board of Assessment Appeals, only one will be seated: Democrat Ann Krane or Republican Timothy Richmond.

Planning and Zoning, three will be seated: incumbents John F. Kerwin, a Democrat, and David T. Sauter, a Republican currently listed on the board as an alternate; and candidates Joshua Dykstra, a Democrat, and Republican Brett Olbrys.

Running unopposed are Vincent D. Palutis for treasurer, Ashley Schremmer for tax collector and zoning board of appeals candidates Peter Bunzl, Jeffrey T. Holmes and Carl Bouchard.
