The incident occurred on March 28, police said, but no other details were released.

DERBY — The chairman of the city’s Republican Town Committee was arrested Wednesday by police in Orange in connection with a March motor vehicle incident.

Sabatino Pollastro Jr., 44, who also serves on the city’s Board of Taxation and is chairman of the Police Commission, declined to comment on the case Saturday, as did his lawyer.

According to a booking report from Orange police, Pollastro surrendered Wednesday after cops obtained an arrest warrant charging him with evading responsibility and use of an improper lane.

The incident occurred on March 28, police said, but no other details were released.

Pollastro was released after posting $ 500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 12.

Mayor Richard Dziekan said Saturday that he was aware of the case, but wants to see what happens once Pollastro goes to court.

“We’re waiting to see what the outcome is,” Dziekan said.
