John “Jack” Brereton Crowley

John ( Jack) Brereton Crowley passed away peacefully at his home, with his loving family by his side, on February 9, 2021, after a courageous battle with a long illness. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Jack was born on March 28, 1940 in Boston, Massachuse­tts, and is the son of the late Dennis Michael and Anne Elizabeth Crowley. He grew up in West Roxbury, Massachuse­tts and spent his childhood summers at Briarwood Beach in Wareham, Massachuse­tts. He attended Boston Technical High School and was an outstandin­g athlete, excelling in basketball, football, boxing and track. A Massachuse­tts All- State football player, he went on to attend the University of Massachuse­tts, Amherst and Northeaste­rn University. On November 25, 1961 he married the love of his life, Jean Lois Doherty, and they had 59 beautiful years together. They raised their three children, John Crowley, Jr., Karen Healy and Kacy Crowley Farr in Amherst, Massachuse­tts and Trumbull, Connecticu­t.

Jack was a builder, entreprene­ur and real estate developer who designed and developed residentia­l, commercial and industrial properties throughout New England. His design vision was extraordin­ary and he created many beautiful homes and buildings.

Family was a constant thread in his life. He was an incredible father who devoted himself to his children and grandchild­ren. Jack made sure that family gatherings were unforgetta­ble. He loved skiing, traveling and spending time near the water, and made sure to share these joys with the family.

Jack will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, his sense of adventure and innovative spirit. He was a gentleman and treated everyone he met with kindness and interest. He was a talented artist, creating works of art depicting scenes from the Boston harbor and family life. He lit up every room he ever walked into and left it brighter than it was before.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Michael and Anne Elizabeth Crowley and is survived by his wife, Jean Lois Crowley, and their three children, their spouses, four grandchild­ren and two greatgrand­children, John Brereton Crowley, Jr. and Nancy Crowley ( wife), Karen Jean Healy and John Healy ( husband), Kacy Crowley Farr and Jess Farr ( husband), Jaclyn Elizabeth Healy, Shannan Kate Healy, Rachel Elizabeth Gandy and Trace Gandy ( husband), John Brereton Crowley III, and his brothers and sister, Dennis Michael Crowley, Jr., Timothy Francis Crowley and Anne Elizabeth Tom.

Funeral services to be held in May at St. Theresa’s Church in Trumbull, Connecticu­t. Details to be announced at a later date.
