Martin” Matty” Kentosh

Martin “Matty” Kentosh, age 81 of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2021, after a long illness. Born and raised in Bridgeport, he was the son of the Late Michael and Mary Kentosh of James Street in Hollow, where he grew up.

Over the years, Matty was involved with a multitude of local and national organizati­ons. He represente­d the City of Bridgeport as an Alderman for the 132nd District for 10 years, while serving as President of the Bridgeport Common Council and was honored to serve as Mayor for the city for a day. He was a Lifelong member of the United Steamfitte­rs and Plumbers Union, Local 777, where he served a board member for many years. He retired from the City or Bridgeport, were he worked for over 25 years as the City Plumber.

Additional­ly, Matty was involved with many local groups and organizati­ons. He started with the Boys Club as a kid and when his family started to grow, he supported his children in the Bridgeport Original Little League, St Peter’s Royalaires Drum & Bugle Corps and the St. Peter’s School HSA. He also volunteere­d and worked with the Local Chapter of the Jaycee’s. He was a member of the Warren Street Social & Athletic Club, The Germania Schawben Club and PORT 5 National Assoc. of Naval Vets. He and his family were members of the Sun- Haven and Holiday beach clubs, where they became friends with so many great families and continued to be friends with them throughout his life. He also was a major supporter of the Beardsley Zoo and Barnum Museum, two of his favorite things about Bridgeport. Matty was also the owner of Captain Smedley’s Bar & Grill in Black Rock, just another great place where he met so many great people. As a child, he attended St. Augustine’s Elementary School and then Graduated from Bullard Haven Technical School in 1957.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, whom he has been married to for 58 years, His son, Matt and wife Tracy, his daughter, Karen and husband John, along with Matty’s grandchild­ren, John, Ashley, Nicco and MJ along with his furry friend “Q” da cat, someone that loved to sit on his lap and get a good neck rub.
