Frederick A. Judd III ( Lt. Col. USAF), 88 years old, died at home in Englewood, CO on March 31, 2021. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticu­t on November 10, 1932 to Frederick A. Judd Jr. and Clara Louise Matthews Judd. He was the youngest of four children whom all have preceded him in death.

Fred graduated from Fairfield Prep and received a scholarshi­p to Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA and was a member of the ROTC. Upon graduation in 1955 he went to pilot training in Laredo, Texas and remained there for three years as a flight instructor. He was assigned to Sembach and Rammstein AFB in Germany in support of NATO operations. Returning to the US he went to Williams Air Force Base in AZ as an advanced flight instructor. From there he went to Luke Air Force Base for F- 100 tactical flight training. He flew 238 combat missions in Vietnam at Tuy Hoa and Bien Hoa bases in 1969 to 1970. Upon returning he attended Arizona State University under the Air Force Institute of Technology Program ( AFIT).

In 1973 he was assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, MT where he was Communicat­ions Director for the United States and Canadian Communicat­ion Forces. A new assignment in 1977 took him to Wright Patterson AF Base in Dayton, OH.

Retiring from the Air Force in 1979 Fred and his family moved to Bridgeport, CT where he went to work for Peoples Bank as Public Relations Director. Then he went to work for the St. Vincent Medical Foundation as Vice President. Fred was President of the Cardinal Shehan Center Board and also served on the Board of Police Commission­ers in Bridgeport. He retired from public service in 1995 and they moved to Denver, CO.

Fred and his wife Carolyn married in Great Falls, Montana in 1975 after both lost their spouses ( Maura Kathleen Murphy and F. Lane Faricy) to illness. Fred is survived by his wife Carolyn of 45 years and their eight children, Kevin Judd ( Marie), Brian Judd, Mary Kelly Safford ( Hugh), Frederick A. Judd IV ( Kathy), Kathleen Spillman ( Jeff), Traci Dougherty ( Tom), Dennis Judd ( Lisa), Colleen Zahn ( Peter), 16 grandchild­ren and one great granddaugh­ter.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are pending.
