The house that stands at 155 Pemburn Drive in Fairfield’s University area was originally a ranch style home that was taken down to the studs in 2001 and completely rebuilt into the custom colonial it is today. The owners worked with a local architect to design many of the home’s unique features to suit their family and entertaining lifestyle. Custom built- ins, nine- foot ceilings, detailed crown molding and recessed lighting throughout the main level creates an elegant feel throughout. “We kept the original footprint of the house that was built in 1953 because it was such a great layout,” the owners stated. “We later enlarged it in 2005 and added the second floor. We chose every single element, from the large airy features like the windows to the smaller details like the fixtures, doorknobs and hinges. It is simply a home that gives you a hug the moment you walk in.” "I love the charm and character of this completely renovated home, and the location on a quiet street is fabulous," Realtor Julie Vanderblue stated. "But I think my favorite part is the unbelievable tree house. It is the perfect place to watch a movie, meditate, or just chill out and relax!"

The treehouse is indeed a work of art that is fabulously functional. The owners were fascinated with the TV show “Treehouse Masters” and decided to build one themselves. The project took on a life of its own from being a simple platform treehouse, to the beautiful creation it is today, thanks to several years of work and engineering advice from the Treehouse Masters experts. The treehouse features an intricate reciprocal roof, casement windows, electricity and space for two hammocks.

“It is an amazing space which will always hold a very special place in our hearts,” said the owners. “It is like a retreat for solitude and togetherness. We have loved reading, watching movies, laying in hammocks, and having sleepovers there.”

The main house boasts an open floor with an abundance of natural light. A two- story foyer with arched doorways opens to an inviting living room with a wall of built- ins including a hide- a- way for a flat screen TV, open shelves, and storage, all framing a beautiful fireplace at its center. The living room flows into the dining area, which is graced with an abundance of windows and sliding glass door leading to the back deck and yard. The chef’s kitchen features granite countertops, custom cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and a bar area ideal for casual dining or homework. A French door leads to the covered mahogany deck that is perfect for outdoor dining and entertaining. The family room features more custom built- ins, sliders to the deck, and on the opposite side, double pocket doors to a home office, or fifth bedroom option, with beautiful custom shelving and cabinets.

On the second level, the primary suite features vaulted ceilings, a walk- in closet, and luxurious bathroom. There are also three generously proportioned bedrooms and another full bath. The expansive fenced backyard offers plenty of room for recreation and leisure enjoyment and is highlighted by a huge kousa dogwood tree.

“It is truly a sight to behold with the most magnificent white blossoms every June,” said the owners. “We will also miss the large lilac trees that line the driveway and the ornamental lilac tree by the front door. When they bloom every spring, their fragrance is breathtaking.”
